What is RSS & Why You Should Subscribe to RSS Feed?

I wanted to write an article about two things:

  • What is RSS?
  • Why you should subscribe to RSS feed of your favorite blogs and news?

However, instead of me writing on that topic, I will link to a concise article posted on ProBlogger.net – What is RSS? Obviously, other people have already done a great job of writing on the subject of RSS. VideoJug has even created a short video to help you understand the benefits of subscribing to RSS feeds.

Take a moment and read the post: What is RSS?

If you are ready to experiment with subscribing to RSS feeds, you can try Pyramid Investing blog RSS feed.

I have to admit that until recently, I was one “old fashioned” reader that used to browse his favorite blogs and news for the content. Now the updated content comes to me!

  • I get to chose what I subscribe to
  • I get all the updates in one central place (my Google Reader)
  • I don’t have to use my bookmarks or favorites anymore
  • I don’t waste any more time checking for updates
  • I don’t miss anything that I am interested in

I wouldn’t go back to the “old fashioned” way now that I realize what a great idea RSS is. I can only regret that I haven’t found out about it earlier!

And, as the article mentions, you don’t have to introduce Google Reader or any other reader in your life if you haven’t already used any (although it is highly recommended). You can still have the benefit of new posts and news coming to you, but in a more traditional way – your E-mail.

Any page on Pyramid Investing blog will have “Subscribe to Pyramid Investing” links. Click on any of the following three objects:

RSS Subscribe

You will be taken to the FeedBurner page where you can make your subscription selection. A screen similar to this one will show up:

I use Google reader and I subscribe by clicking on Subscribe to RSS by Google Reader. You can subscribe by E-mail as well, if you click on Subscribe to RSS by E-Mail. You can also make both reader and E-mail subscriptions at the same time if you are not sure which one will work better for you. Give it some time to test. Reader will pull all or most posts at the time of subscription and future updates will be delivered as they occur. If you subscribe by E-mail, you will not receive anything right away. You will get an E-mail each time there is an update, but after you made your subscription. If you wish, you can drop any subscription at any time.

Whichever way you decide to subscribe, I am sure you will find it beneficial. RSS is one great Internet innovation that makes our lives simpler and we should definitely embrace it.
